I am currently revisiting the Alpy600 and seeing how deep I can go. The exercise is currently at mag 12 with EF Cep attached (and image insert). However, I cannot see a spectral classification for this star in Simbad or Skiff. I can't believe I am the first person to take this one! I have followed a couple of the references in Simbad to various catalogues to no avail. Mine looks around class F I believe...
Anyone come across this one before?
Incidentally, the spectrum is filtered with parameter '4' in Bass. I am going to try binning 2x2 (at least) on my 460EX with these fainter stars to see if I can improve SNR (certainly works with Lhires...)

HD43378 is listed as 2 Lyn an eclipsing binary spectral type A2Vs C;

Also listed on p.133 + 353 as A2 V Starlist 2000 a handy reference book by Richard Dibon-Smith.

I think the HD43378 in the filename refers to the reference star used (a MILES star). The spectrum is of EF Cep which does not even appear in Brian Skiff's huge database of published spectral types so yes this might well be the first published spectrum of this star.

According to VSX, EF Cep is an eclipsing variable type W Uma with a period of 0.606072d which if Wikipedia is correct makes it a type A and should consist of two stars of type A-F which from the look of the spectrum I would say is correct. (A quick overlay of Pickles spectra suggests a type F2iii is a pretty good match for example)
