You will have noticed, especially as we have treated to a few clear skies, the various combinations of the Moon and Venus during late January. Together with Jupiter on 28th they presented an attractive crescent configuration in the evening sky above rural Derbyshire. This excellent photo of the moon, including Earthshine, and Venus was taken by Martin Griffiths, senior lecturer in Astronomy at the University of Glamorganon 2012-01-26 using a Canon 350D SLR and 300mm lens. The exposure was 1/20th second at f/5.6
