The sun fuses thousands of tonnes of hydrogen into helium every second, and when the weather is like this it certainly feels like it. Right now the sun is pretty inactive from a sunspot perspectiveand there is a shortage of good groupings. This fine example was imaged by Dennis Boon on 5th July at 1100 hrs UT and he has placed an image of the Earth alongside to show the scale. Equipment used: Telescope - Orion Optics OMC200, Camera - lumenera lu075m, Filter - Baader AstroSolar Safety Film. Exposure details: 1500 stacked frames, stacked in Registax and tweaked in Photoshop Elements.
