On Hallowe'en night Martin Lewis was not out trick or treating. Instead, inspired by Damian Peach’s recent images, he was making his first ever attempt at imaging the planet Uranus. Seeing was good but transparency poor.
Equipment used was an IR sensitive ASI224MC camera with a 610nm Baader longpass filter for the planet (18mins of video data). Capture was done at f27 on a home-built f4.6 dobsonian of 444mm aperture mounted on a home-built equatorial platform. Exposures were 30msec at max gain and captures were done at about 30fps for 18mins. The image was the best 50% of 40k frames processed in Pipp, AS2 and Registax followed by Paint ShopPro. Planet was colourised to make it more aesthetically interesting. The fainter moons were exposed for 12 minutes with no filter and at 2x2 binning for noise reduction.
