Hi Roger,

The COBS server is set in a RAID5 configuration that is fail safe for one
HDD.
There are also daily backups of the complete database made. These backups
are stored on an external hard drive (same location) and also synchronized
to a second location server (my home NAS server). Unfortunately my NAS
server is not capable to run mod_python web-sites, so it only serves as a
second location backup repository.
I do however have a Virtual Server setup at home on my computer that has
COBS installed, but it is not running always but could be used in case of
emergency if the main server fails.

There was also a backup mirror server set-up at Institute for Astronomy at
University of Hawaii. The idea was to have a synced server there, but this
is still project in progress. There are lots of security questions when
setting up such configuration that would sync information between servers.

As for my replacement :)
The COBS software was written in python (mod_python, postgresql) completely
by me and it is not based on any existing framework.
The colleagues from the Crni Vrh Observatory do know the python language
and could help if there are any debugging problems and database management.
But there is also not much work with the database it self. The most of the
time goes for maintaining the news section to be as up-to-date as possible.
Off-course there are times like now that a huge archive is to be imported
and this is where im mostly involved.
I also do hope that im not going anywhere for a while ;)

Hopefully I answered your questions.

Best regards
Jure
