Hi,
I'm also seeing a diffuse extended coma, possibly 9' in dia. See my image http://www.astromania.co.uk/2013X1_20160107_1925_PCarson.jpg mid time just before Nick's.
I get a VEM of 9.1 using the Focas – Kphot method.

Peter

Pretty good agreement with my visual observation in 20x80B from central Cambridge - 8.2 and 5' diameter.

Regards,

Hi all,

I managed to image this comet tonight in good skies using my widefield
setup from Chelmsford. There is definitely a very diffuse outer
extension to the coma. Using my VEM method I get mag 8.4 using UCAC-4 R
mags and a photometric aperture of 620 arcsec diameter. My image is here:

This is a nicely positioned object which will be interesting to follow
over the next few months.

Nick.
