The current Director of the BAA Solar Section; in post since 2006. A selection of Section images will appear here on a monthly basis reflecting solar activity in white light, H-alpha and Calcium K-line. I am not an imager so none are my own work! I prefer the old fashioned "at the telescope" and sketching what I see. I have been interested in astronomy since I was 7 years old and Sputnik passed overhead. I joined the BAA initially in the late 1960's but by 1973 I let my membership lapse as my active astronomy was put on a back burner whilst career/marriage/life took over. Once I retired in the late 1990's a chance encounter with an astronomy magazine sparked it all off again and before I'd reached the back cover, I had a telescope on order and subscription to the BAA on it's way. It didn't take long to rediscover solar astronomy about which I am almost obsessive! I enjoy giving astronomy talks to local groups and schools and dragging people in off the street to see what's going on solar-wise.
