I can confirm that enigmatic comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann has undergone a
second strong outburst within the space of 4 days.
This time the inner coma (5.7" radius) has reached an r' magnitude of 12.1
which is the brightest such event since 2010 February 02.
The time of this latest outburst was 2017 August 27.20 +/-0.05 (see data
below).
Observers should keep a close watch on the comet as it is highly probable
that this event will trigger further outbursts from the nucleus during the
coming days. Furthermore, given the strength of the current outburst, we
should see a major coma development as the debris from the eruption expands
into the vacuum of space.
